The latest EGS exhibition at Napa Gallery is a tribute to Helsinki’s graffiti tradition. Graffitis are an integral part of each city’s cultural history and landscape. For EGS, they have also been a way to explore different neighborhoods of the city of Helsinki. Subway tunnels, transformers, wastelands, demolition houses, railway tunnels, industrial and port areas formed an adventure park for the 80’s graffiti youth. Many of these sites have now vanished to give room for new residential areas and commercial real estate.
To his new paintings, EGS has documented the feeling of the Helsinki vibe of his graffiti adolescence. Cobblestones, harbor cranes, wire-netting fences, trams, chimneys, sea fog, lighthouses, brick walls and climbing trees have sprang to life as a graffiti letters and parts of them. The pieces in the exhibition represent graffiti art at its simplest: tags and stylized letters painted with black ink.
EGS is one of the Finland’s best-known graffiti artists internationally. His career as an artist began after the mid 80’s, inspired by the first Finnish graffiti wave. His work has been displayed on the walls and in galleries worldwide. Noteworthy is, he has not painted Illegal graffiti for years.

To celebrate the exhibition, we at Grey Market teamed up with EGS to create a set of collaborative gear. The EGS pack includes a white tee shirt and tote bag featuring black ink EGS piece. We kept it simple with one color screenprint, nuff said.
